HW 7

Director J.J. Abrams talks about how his grandfather and his love for magic opened the gateway for doing what he loves. The aspect of infinite possibles and mystery is more important than knowledge. Abrams likes to incorporate that into his work and how he comes up with ideas for tv and movies.

Homework 6

The 20 rules are very important to follow. If you don't follow them, your designs will look messy and unfinished. Keeping designs simple, avoiding color discord, and never stretching type are just some of the rules to learn so you know to avoid them. One that I usually forget about is using white as an empty space. Sometimes i feel like i have to fill in everything, but this has helped me consider keeping things minimal at times.

i really like this movie poster because its simple. Even tough the movie title is a little strange, the movie poster really gives you the idea of what the movie is about. The poster shows thinking about his past relationship with the huge crack in the ice showing that it was broken. Even though it looks a little cheesy, i like it.

HW

In this weeks TED talk, Tim Brown talks about design thinking. He explains that we have to take a different view of design, and focus less on the object and more on design. By doing that we can see a bigger impact. He also talks about how design thinking is balancing desirability, what humans need, with technical feasibility, and economic viability. Tim wants design thinking to be applied to topics like global warming, education, healthcare, and clean water. He wants design thinking to make a positive impact and create new ideas.

Dave Perillo's art style feels very nostalgic. The muted colors and the 50's pop art gives it a great feeling. I really enjoyed the fact that he started out on deviantart and then was asked to participate in an art gallery. I feel like that is many 13 year old artists' dream. I also enjoyed that he said we dont need a million Garfields out there. Being influenced by another artist is a great way to start your own art style, but being unique is also very important.

Niels Diffrient talked about his romance with airplanes. Not actually being in love with an airplane, but the love for the aesthetics, and the feeling for the design if objects. After over 25 years with his love for airplanes, he quit. The romance was gone. He decided to work with chairs for office workers. He designed a chair that would not interfere with the main reason a person is sitting there. He realized that nobody actually readjusts their chair according to their body type, so he made one that would be a good fit for everyone.

Heres the Sunset Project!

  Heres the original!Heres the inverted!

I really like the peachy colors of the invert!

How to Ruin a Great Design talks about how designers in London are letting things slip. Before, London's street signs were well thought out, but now these signs are lacking in practicality and hard to comprehend. The photo of the Diverted Cyclists sign in the article is a great example. Making the "D" too big makes it look sloppy and again, makes the sign hard to comprehend. These designers are trying to "refresh" these signs, but all they are doing is making things worse.

What is your computer experience?

I grew up using a PC for just about everything, but my junior year of high school I started to use the Macs at my school for a Graphic Design class.

What is your experience with Photoshop and Illustrator?

I started using photoshop and illustrator my junior year of high school and I've been using them ever since. Although I definitely favor photoshop over illustrator.

Do you have a computer at home ? If so does it have Photoshop and Illustrator?

I have my own laptop that I bought last October and I had photoshop for last semester. Ill have to buy it again or find another alternative because its super expensive.

What is your major?

My major is Video Game Design and Development.

What do you hope to get out of this class?

I hope to advance my knowledge in photoshop and illustrator and get motivated to make more art.

Who is your favorite artist?

I really like Rebecca Sugars art style because its cute and bubbly.

Who is your favorite musician?

Oh boy there are a lot... I really like The Front Bottoms, Modern Baseball, and Foxing.

Tell me something interesting about yourself?

I just recently found out that I need glasses. I have a suspicion that its from stating at screens for long period of time.

Write a five line story?

It was New Years night and it was officially 2017. After all the kissing, hugging, and screaming when the ball dropped, Charlie and Tommy ran to the edge of the creek by the dead end by my house. When I ran up to the rest of my friends surrounding them, Charlie and Tommy were already half naked in the creek. Charlie really loves his weird socks so he threw me them when he was knee deep in the freezing cold water. A side note: Charlie has no self control.
